Your course fee includes teacher manuals and handouts (as indicated in the course descriptions) and Massachusetts Professional Development Points or certificate of attendance. Graduate credits are offered for an additional fee as indicated in each course description and are payable to Fitchburg State University through an online link provided by the instructor on the first day of class.
We currently offer the practicum with students from teachers’ own caseloads. We will observe you virtually with your student(s) before, during, or after the school day.
You must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree. If you are not a teacher by profession, you must make an appointment with the Fellow before enrolling.
The standards set forth by the Orton-Gillingham Academy require 60 hours of coursework at the Associate Level. Our Orton-Gillingham Associate Level training is the first step toward certification. We offer a 42-hour course, and then you may begin the practicum and additional 18 hours of instruction in our seminar format. Other training programs may not be accredited in the same way.
Level 1 Coursework: 7 days of initial coursework (42 hours) Classroom Educator Practicum: 50 small group O-G lessons with a minimum of 5 observations by a Fellow over a minimum of 8 consecutive months. -OR- Associate Level Practicum and Seminars: 3 days of additional coursework (18 hours) + 100 1:1 O-G lessons with a minimum of 10 observations by a Fellow over a minimum of 8 consecutive months. Those Associate level graduates who wish to deepen their practice may enroll in the Orton-Gillingham Level 2 Certified Level Coursework and Practicum. Our Orton-Gillingham training is accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy, which means that our training program has undergone a rigorous application and site-visitation process. Our training meets the standards set forth by the Academy. Our training and supervision are offered by Fellows of the Orton-Gillingham Academy. Our OG Fellows have decades of experience working in public schools and mentoring public school teachers. We offer training that meets the needs of working professionals. Most of our coursework is offered in the evening, on weekends, and in the summer.
Within each course description in the training schedule, there is a link to register electronically. When you complete the registration form, please be sure to click payment via PayPal or School Purchase Order. You are responsible for requesting a P.O. from your school. Please email Elena Zangari to request an invoice and/or W9.
We are happy to offer 10% off each participant’s course fee for groups of 3 or more who register together. Please deduct 10% off your total before submitting your payment or Purchase Order. Please register each attendee separately through the online portal and click Purchase Order/Pay at the Door at the bottom. We will generate an invoice that reflects the discount, which you can then use to generate a P.O.
