The Intersection of Dyslexia, ADHD, & Anxiety: Understanding and Supporting our Students
Featuring Roberto Olivardia, Ph.D.
Thursday, March 26 | 5:30–8PM
McSwiney Center for Professional Learning at EDCO | Bedford, MA
How do we support students with learning, attention, and social-emotional challenges? Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is one of the most misunderstood conditions, often seen as simply an academic issue. This presentation will discuss the true nature of what ADHD is, as well as what we know about the ADHD brain and how ADHD affects every life domain of an individual. Approximately 50%-60% of people with ADHD also have a learning disability, such as dyslexia. Having ADHD and/or dyslexia can have a social-emotional impact on an individual, including low self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Ways to prevent, identify and treat these symptoms will be discussed, along with strategies teachers can employ that can help these students in the classroom. The speaker, who has ADHD and has a son with ADHD and dyslexia, will share both clinical and personal anecdotes.
Appropriate for Educators of All Grades, Including Special Educators, Reading Specialists, Intervention (T2) Educators, and Paraeducators
